Branch 142, Dunnville
04 March 2013 - Issue #12

Could we assume that spring is coming in like a lamb?  No heavy wet snow to shovel, no ‘March winds’ (so far) and I can even feel some warmth in the sun.  This is when I want to start leafing through seed catalogues.  The other aspect of Spring is the dastardly ‘Spring cleaning’  and being somewhat housework-challenged, I poke my nose farther into the seed catalogues to escape the dust bunnies that have no connection to Easter.

While we are on the subject of clean-up and renewal, there has been a massive undertaking at the Branch, redoing all the floors.  The upper banquet hall which has the beautiful hardwood flooring has been redone and it just gleams asking for someone to dance on it.  The lower hall has had a total scrubbing and professional polishing.  The place glistens like a bright, shiny new penny – well I guess we can’t use that analogy anymore, but nevertheless, the place looks like new.  The clubroom terrazzo floor is next on the list.  I can’t wait to see that!  Come in and see for yourself.  You will appreciate all the changes and improvements that have been made.

The month of March will be a busy one for Branch 142, the first event being the Ladies’ Corned Beef and Cabbage Dinner in honour of St. Patrick for all you Irish folk out there.  The brining will be well underway by the time you read this and will be served up on Saturday, March 16th starting at 5:00 pm.  Dinner will include: corned beef, cabbage, potatoes, onions, carrots and homemade Irish soda bread, tea, coffee and dessert for $12.00 per person.   Friday, March 22nd is our Spring Turkey Raffle, Saturday, March 23rd is our 50’s-60’s Dance featuring Dave Burden and the grand finale for the month is our Good Friday Perch Dinner.  Mark your calendars so you don’t miss anything and be sure to change your clocks on Sunday.
