Branch 142, Dunnville
08 April 2013 - Issue #17

The quiet arrival of spring in town is a little different than the cacophony of sound that I had grown accustomed to at the Lake.  I miss the excitement of the ducks and geese taking their first spring dips into the pond looking for tadpoles and new weed growth and above all trying to find new hiding places for their eggs.  I will miss the grand entrance of the Purple Martins arriving in great swarms from across the lake.  What a sight it is.  Then to land on the same house they were born in and use exactly the same nesting box for their brood generation after generation.

The Branch has been all abuzz as well to start the spring off on the right foot, donations have been made to the Lions for their skatepark project - $5,000.00 to be exact and $15,000.00 to the Dunnville Hospital Health Foundation to Back-the-Cat and $1,000.00 to the Hospital Volunteer Association for Meals-on-wheels.  As you are well aware, 90% of everything that we take in, goes back out into the community and the remainder is used for the ever increasing cost of utilities and maintenance of our grand old structure.

The month of April is going to be rather quiet but it gives us time to re-group and rest up to get ready for a busy month of May.  Itís going to start with another Perch Dinner on Friday, May 3rd and if you were at our last one on Good Friday, you wonít want to miss this one.  We have had several people tell us that it was the best Perch Dinner they had ever had!  I will second it.  We are still getting positive feedback.  We will have another dance in May on Saturday the 4th.  Ragg Topp is coming back.  Now if you need a little music in between dances,  come to our Wednesday afternoon sing-song and the Friday night Karaoke.  There is always a good time to be had at the Legion.
