cobs of corn followed by Anne McAlpine’s Rhubarb Dump
Cake and once again found myself struggling to squeeze
myself into my Legion uniform only to look in the mirror
and seeing something reminiscent of a ‘cabbage patch
kid’ staring back at me. What
a sight; much like the old baseball coaches that are still
trying to look good in a baseball uniform.
Nevertheless, the process continued at the
branch’s annual picnic.
We had a great turnout, a perfect setting thanks to
the Edie family sharing their property on the river with
us for the event, not to mention the abundance of food and
even discovered some hidden talent in the bocci ball
I’ll have to tell Dave Green that we may have
some future lawn bowlers!
We are coming into one of our busiest months
starting with the Annual Veterans’ Golf Tournament on
Sunday, September 8th at Freedom Oaks for an 18
hole ‘scramble’ followed by steaks and prizes back at
Wednesday, September 18th is the
Veterans’ Dinner, please let the branch know that you
are coming, call 905-774-5942 and all Veterans’ dinners
are complementary with a minimal charge for guests.
A sign-up sheet will be in the clubroom.
Thursday, September 19th at 8:00 pm, is
the Men’s/Ladies’ Night featuring Dave Burden for your
To top off the week on Friday, September 20th,
will be our monthly Perch Dinner starting at 4:30 pm and
running to 7:00 pm as usual.
Take-out will be at the back door on Central Lane.
An all inclusive dinner of ½ lb. of perch, fries,
homemade coleslaw, dinner roll, dessert, tea and coffee
for only $15/pp.
A perfect way to close Legion Week.
