September is full of activities at the Legion

Another summer of overindulgence; too many hamburgers, hotdogs, cobs of corn followed by Anne McAlpine’s Rhubarb Dump Cake and once again found myself struggling to squeeze myself into my Legion uniform only to look in the mirror and seeing something reminiscent of a ‘cabbage patch kid’ staring back at me.  What a sight; much like the old baseball coaches that are still trying to look good in a baseball uniform.  Nevertheless, the process continued at the branch’s annual picnic.  We had a great turnout, a perfect setting thanks to the Edie family sharing their property on the river with us for the event, not to mention the abundance of food and camaraderie.  I even discovered some hidden talent in the bocci ball tournament.  I’ll have to tell Dave Green that we may have some future lawn bowlers!

We are coming into one of our busiest months starting with the Annual Veterans’ Golf Tournament on Sunday, September 8th at Freedom Oaks for an 18 hole ‘scramble’ followed by steaks and prizes back at the Legion.  Wednesday, September 18th is the Veterans’ Dinner, please let the branch know that you are coming, call 905-774-5942 and all Veterans’ dinners are complementary with a minimal charge for guests.  A sign-up sheet will be in the clubroom.  Thursday, September 19th at 8:00 pm, is the Men’s/Ladies’ Night featuring Dave Burden for your entertainment.   To top off the week on Friday, September 20th, will be our monthly Perch Dinner starting at 4:30 pm and running to 7:00 pm as usual.  Take-out will be at the back door on Central Lane.  An all inclusive dinner of ½ lb. of perch, fries, homemade coleslaw, dinner roll, dessert, tea and coffee for only $15/pp.  A perfect way to close Legion Week.

Carol Nie has arranged another night of entertainment for you on Saturday, September 28th.  The Neil Diamond Tribute.  I will have more details for you next week, but mark your calendars now.  “Time passes, friendship remains”.
