Poppy fund raises $17,000 and counting

Our thanks go out to the community for your generosity during our Annual Poppy Campaign and to the many volunteers that made it happen.  We are approaching $17,000 and still counting.  As you may already know, it all finds its way back into the community through our donations to the Hospital, Veteransí care facilities, Meals on wheels, volunteer associations and many more.  It will touch us all someday and we will be glad we honoured our veterans and made our contributions to the Poppy Fund.

Remembrance Day was a busy one for everyone at the branch, the Colour Party leading the march to the Cenotaph were as handsome as ever despite the blustery weather and the turn-out for the ceremony was commendable.  There is always a nice lunch ready for the participants upon their return, lovingly set out by the Ladiesí Auxiliary who have traditionally kept the home-fires burning and although most of us canít make the walk to the cenotaph anymore, we find many ways to honour our Vets,  One of them is the preparation of our Veteransí Remembrance Dinner.  It was a great evening, plenty of food and camaraderie followed by honours and awards.

By the time you read this, we will be setting up for our final Perch Dinner of the year; Friday, November 22nd.  We are starting a little earlier, 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm due to the early setting sun.  It will get cold for the crew working at the back.  This will be our last Perch Dinner until Good Friday, 2014.  Of course there will always be great dinners served in the meantime.  Donít forget our Corned Beef and Cabbage Dinner in honour of St. Patrick!

The Christmas season is a busy time at the branch with the Kidís Christmas Party on December 15th, the Turkey Raffle on December 20th and our New Years Eve Party to ring in 2014.
